Donna Manganelli Sloan is President of Sloan & Sloan Architecture and Interior Design, Vice-President of Conch Custom Homes, and Vice-President of Sloan Properties Tropical Accommodations.

Donna received her primary and secondary education in Montville, New Jersey, and studied liberal arts and sciences for one year at Trenton State College in Ewing, New Jersey.

Donna attended the University of Florida as an undergraduate in 1979. She received an Associate of Arts degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1981 and a Bachelor of Design degree from the College of Architecture in 1983. As an undergraduate she was a member of the Gargoyles Honor Society, the American Society of Interior Designers (student chapter), the American Institute of Architecture Students, and served on the Architecture College Council.

Donna interned in New York City during her college years. After graduation, she began her career as an interior designer in South Florida. Donna has practiced interior design for over 30 year. She has practiced as a licensed professional in the employ of several prominent design firms, as well as at the helm of her own companies. She has taught interior design at Lynn University and has written a local newspaper column about interior design.

Over the years Donna has broadened her educational background in both Architecture and Interior Design. In 1995 she went to France, and under the tutelage of Professor Manual Ponce of Florida State University she studied “Historical French Architecture and Design” in Paris and at Versailles. In 1996 Donna applied to graduate school at her alma mater and began graduate studies in architecture at the University of Florida in the fall of 1997. During her tenure Donna had the opportunity to study Renaissance Architecture under the tutelage of Dr. Michael Rabens, Post Modern Architecture under Professor HW Kemp, and Tropical Architecture under AIA fellow, Carl Thorne. She also had the great privilege to study under renowned architectural historian, author, and critic, Mr. Colin Rowe. Donna was awarded the Villagers Scholarship for preservation studies and attended the Preservation Institute: Nantucket in the summer of 1998 under a full merit scholarship.

While in graduate school, Donna served as an officer in the American Institute of Architecture Students. She was involved in two state-sponsored, University of Florida, research assistantships and was acknowledged in William N. Morgan’s book “Pre-Columbian Architecture in Eastern North America”. She participated in preservation volunteer work at both, the Spanish Quarter Museum, St. Augustine, FL. and the Historic Museum and Cultural Center, Hawthorne, FL. She maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout her graduate studies and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. Her Thesis “The Rejuvenation of Movie Palaces based on the Florida Theater” is archived at the University of Florida Architecture Library. Donna was conferred the Master of Science in Architectural Studies Degree in the spring of 1999 and was awarded the University of Florida, College of Architecture MSAS Excellence Award for outstanding academic achievement.

As a professional in her field Donna has devoted time, treasure, and talent to her greater Community. She has served on the Boards of Directors for the Delray Beach Preservation Trust (2008- 2014) and the Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce (2009- 2014). She is creator, cofounder, and (co-chair 2010, 2011) of the Delray Business Executives and has served the chamber board on its Executive Committee as Communications Chair” (2012, 2013).

Donna is a strong believer in playing an active roll while serving in leadership positions. She has been instrumental in working with the CRA and the City of Delray Beach on behalf of the Delray Beach Preservation Trust, and is proud to have authored the tri-party double matching grants program, for signage for Delray Beach Historic Districts and residential neighborhoods. Donna conceived of and spearheaded “The Delray Then and Now” Movie and Movie Premier Event and served as its committee chair. The event raised over $10,000.00 for the Delray Beach Preservation Trust and the documentary movie, which was created, directed, and produced by Donna, was subsequently copyrighted and continues to produce income for the Trust through ongoing DVD sales. Donna is also proud to have spearheaded and produced “The Architectural Icons and Styles of Delray Beach Coloring Book” for the Trust, which is also available for purchase in Delray and produces ongoing income for the Trust as well.

Donna has been a Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce Ambassador (2007 – 2012) as well as ASID (America Society of Interior Designers) Ambassador to South Palm Beach County (2009 – 2012). During her tenure as ASID Ambassador she authored and created the semi annual ASID / GCBA joint industry mixer program and produced the first and third events in the program. Donna has also served on the (commission appointed) Delray Beach Historic Preservation Board (2000 – 2003) and is a graduate of both Leadership Delray (2001) and Delray Resident’s Academy (2003).

Donna has been twice nominated for Delray Beach Business Person of the Year (2009, 2011) and once nominated for The Executive Women of the Palm Beaches, Women In Leadership Award (Private Sector) (2009). She and her firms are recipients of numerous awards, acknowledgements, and recognitions from organizations including The American Society of Interior Designers, The Gold Coast Builder Association, The American Institute of Architects, The Executive Women of the Palm Beaches and The Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce.
